A percolation brew method where coffee is poured over a brewer with a filter containing ground coffee so the water flowing through extracts coffee compounds into the cup or carafe below.
Touted for the ability to extract wonderful flavour profiles from a range of coffee roasts especially in the lighter range, this method is accessible (can get started with minimal cost), good for single (often thought of as a “single cup pour over”) or multi cup (to a point) brewing, and easy to brew a great cup as a beginner while also having a high ceiling for those who want to dive deep into the art.
There are many brewers in this category, including the Hario v60, Chemex, Melitta one cup, Kalita Wave, Fellow Stag.
There are standard paper filters for a clean cup, but there are also metal and cloth options.
We consider pour over to be a top tier brew method.
